Lanma vs Anki

Anki is the open-source flashcard program with a proven spaced-repetition scheduler and a large library of shared decks. Lanma is a phone app for people learning English (and 19 other languages) from the YouTube videos they watch: the transcript becomes vocabulary you keep, then a live AI voice conversation gets you saying it. Here is where they differ, and who each one is better for.

Anki is the reference for spaced repetition, and Lanma uses the same underlying idea: a word you are about to forget gets asked before you forget it, and the gap grows every time you remember.

The difference is where the cards come from. Anki gives you an empty deck and a very good scheduler; you type or import every card. Lanma builds the deck from a YouTube video you share, keeps only the words you did not know, and then adds the parts a flashcard cannot do: pronunciation audio, cloze quizzes, and a live voice conversation that uses the words.

Who should pick which

Pick Anki if you want people who want total control over card design and scheduling and are happy to build decks by hand.

Pick Lanma if the words you want are in the videos you already watch, you want them to survive past next week, and you want to practise saying them out loud with someone who will correct you.
