HOW IT WORKS

How spaced repetition works in Lanma

What happens to a word after you save it, and why the app asks about it when it does.

Every word has a learning state

01
New
First time seeing this word
02
Learning
Actively memorizing with short intervals
03
Review
Graduated to long-term review
04
Relearning
Forgotten during review, back to short intervals

You grade each word honestly

After seeing the answer, you tap one of three buttons. Your choice tells the algorithm exactly how well you remembered.

Unknown
Don't remember — reset and show again soon
Unsure
Partially recalled — interval grows slightly
Known
Remembered perfectly — skip ahead with a longer interval

Intervals grow as you remember

Each correct answer multiplies your review interval by a personal ease factor. The better you know a word, the longer before you see it again.

Six levels of mastery

Your review interval determines your mastery level. As intervals grow, you progress through six stages — from first encounter to fully mastered.

< 1 day
1
Familiar
1 – 7 days
2
Practiced
7 – 21 days
3
Confident
21 – 60 days
4
Strong
60 – 180 days
5
Mastered
180+ days

The result: you spend time on words you're about to forget, not words you already know. No manual scheduling, no guesswork — just science.
