Magic, Part 1
MAGIC (2019) is back number's most confident album. Mabataki defines happiness as holding an umbrella over someone - 差す, へりくだる, 目を凝らす - Summer Wonderland supplies the vocabulary of a complicated summer (忖度, 波風, 目眩, 踏み切る), and Artist turns the music business into a shop window: 担保, 充満, 見世物, 撒き散らす.

| 目を凝らす | to strain one's eyes, to peer hard (めをこらす) | 暗がりに目を凝らした。I peered hard into the darkness. |
| 逸れる | to stray, to veer off course (それる) | 台風が進路から逸れた。The typhoon veered off its course. |
| 色味 | colour tone, tint (いろみ) | 写真の色味を少し調整した。I adjusted the photo's colour tone slightly. |
| 芝生 | a lawn, grass (しばふ) | 芝生に座って弁当を食べた。We sat on the lawn and ate our lunch. |
| 寝転ぶ | to lie down, to sprawl (ねころぶ) | 畳に寝転んで天井を見た。I lay on the tatami and looked at the ceiling. |
| 信念 | a conviction, a firm belief (しんねん) | 信念を曲げるつもりはない。I have no intention of bending my convictions. |
| 担保 | collateral, security (たんぽ) | 土地を担保に融資を受けた。They took a loan against the land. |
| 充満 | being filled with, thick with (じゅうまん) | 室内に煙が充満していた。The room was thick with smoke. |
| 撒き散らす | to scatter about, to spread around (まきちらす) | 根拠のない話を撒き散らさないで。Don't go spreading baseless stories. |
| 見世物 | a spectacle, a sideshow (みせもの) | 見世物にされるのは嫌だ。I hate being made a spectacle of. |
| 持ち合わせる | to happen to have on one (もちあわせる) | 細かいお金を持ち合わせていない。I don't have any small change on me. |
| 細胞 | a cell (さいぼう) | 細胞が新しく入れ替わる。Cells are replaced with new ones. |
| 取り替える | to exchange, to replace (とりかえる) | 電池を新しいものに取り替えた。I replaced the batteries with new ones. |
| 肝心 | essential, crucial (かんじん) | 肝心なところを聞き逃した。I missed the crucial part. |
